YOUTH PROGRAMS


1.   H.E.L.P. Youth Group
     
(Help. Educate.Listen.Prevent)
         
         
The goal of H.E.L.P. Youth Group is to promote a healthier lifestyle amongst the community.It seeks to educate the sangat about ongoing diseases in today's world and to give them the knowledge required to prevent these problems.This will be done through presentations after the Sunday divan once a month and a bulletin board in the Gurdwara Sahib for information on health related topics. It will include posters, articles,etc. The information presented in the presentations will also be posted on the bulletin board in both English and Punjabi to ensure that everyone receives the opportunity to read the information in whatever language they are comfortable with. Regular medical examinations will also be provided to anyone interested, to guide them with their health.

2.   Keertan Classes

             
Keertan classes are held at the Gurdwara Sahib, by Bhai Manohar Singh Ji (Head Granthi), after every Sunday Divan. The class duration is of 30 minutes in which you can learn to play harmonium, tabla and to recite the keertan. Fee charged for each class is $10. The timings for the classes are flexible and can be adjusted according to your schedule. If a group of students sign up together for the class, then classes can be held twice a week depending on the number of students in the group.

4.   Sikh Faith & Punjabi Classes

            Sikh faith & Punjabi classes are held at the Gurdwara Sahib on every saturday evening. The fees charged is $35 for the entire course. The students are divided into four different groups depending on their age and their knowledge of the Punjabi language. The details of these four groups are given below. Beginner Group:

Language:

1. Learn Gumukhi Alpha-Bets, Muharni, Recognize Alpha-Bets, Learn sounds of Alpha-Bets, Teach Counting up to 100, Write Counting in Punjabi

Assignment:

1. Writing Alphabet and counting

Projects:

1. Teacher will assign - Craft

History:

1. Name of the Gurus, Pun Piyaray, Char Sahibzaday, Punj Takhat,
2. Simple Stories from Sikh History
Etiquettes:
1. No running and making noise
2. Matha Takena and sitting in Gurdwara
3. How to distribute Napkins?
4. Raise hand in class before asking the question

Novice group:

Should know or learn syllabus of Beginner Group but finish it in one week

Language:

1. Mukta words: Reading and writing – two words
2. Teach Laga Matra systematically – one at a time, and teach sound changes,
3. Use above process by using more than 3 words

History:

1. Teach about Gurus history and their philosophy

Etiquettes:

1. Same as beginner group
2. Greet elders, friends, Bhai Sahib

Expert Group:

Should know or learn syllabus of Beginner and Novice Group but finish it in one week Language: Mix Laga Matra, Learn (Bindi, Adak, Tippi=Adak+Bindi), Learn making sentences, learn reading simple Punjabi books

History:

1. History of famous Gur Sikhs e.g. Bhai Gurdas Jee, Baba Deep Singh jee etc.
2. History of Sikh warriors

Etiquettes:

1. Same as beginner and novice group
2. Serve Langar

Master Group:

1. Learn Gurbani and Sikh Way of Life
2. Rehat Maryada
3. Faith in Gurus
4. Faith in Gurbani
5. Reason for Rehats and Kurehats
